If your mother has lost her ability to think clearly and effectively communicate, it is too late for a power of attorney procedure. That would require her to knowingly and voluntarily give you legal authority. Without that ability, the available legal procedure is called guardianship or conservatorship, where you or other interested persons petition the court to appoint you to make decisions about her care and financial management. The assistance of local experienced elder law counsel could expedite this process.
Best wishes for an outcome you can accept, and please remember to designate a best answer.

Hello,
Your Mom must have mental capacity to hace a power of attorney drafted to give you authority to manage her assets.
If she does not have mental capacity, then you will need to petition for guardianship.
I have attached a link that explains this process in AL.
Sorry to hear about your mother. Since she is not able to execute a Power of Attorney you will need to apply to be her Conservator (over her assets) and Guardian (over her health and welfare--medical and living decisions).
You should contact a Probate attorney in Marshall County to assist you.
