Tranfer fee

Dear New York Tenant: Private landlords without government regulation (such as rent stabilization) are not restricted in terms of tenancy or in the amount of rent that could be charged. Your lease may have disclosed the right to transfer and cost. If the transfer fee is normal and not applied just to you, and there is no supervising government agency (such as HPD or DHCR) then there is no law limiting the landlord.
