/Do I have any protection from eviction if I'm not on a lease and the other tenants want me to move?

I am renting a room in a house without being on the lease or the landlord knowing about it. I live in California. One of the other tenants informed me that they want to move someone else in. I want to know what my rights are if any in this situation are. I came to a verbal agreement with them that I would stay until the first of the year however now they are asking I move out sooner. Do I have any protection from eviction?

Sure, you're "protected" in the sense that in theory, no one can throw you out without legal process. Unless they do so, putting you in the position of taking legal action. Your problem is a practical one, and I urge you to look at it that way. You and roommates are knowingly violating their lease with landlord. Roommates want you out (why is that, I wonder). Why would you want to hang around under these circumstances? It's really in your best interests to get clear of this situation. Ask for a refund of rent to leave early. If roommates owe you money, go to small claims court. You are in an untenable position, partly of your own making. Best to move on, before things get ugly.
