Mold in our bathroom & because of that my son has been suffering with his tonsils and now has to have them removed. The doctor did connect the mold to my son's injury with tonsillitis. I informed my landlord in my building about the mold and he came and patched it up however did not remove the mold properly and it came back. I do have other children in the home and am concerned about our health.

Most personal injury lawyers will offer a free consultation. If they accept your case, they will likely take the case on a contingency basis. If they don't win the case, there is no fee to the lawyer.

Personal injury attorneys routinely work on a contingent fee basis meaning they only get paid when monies are recovered in the matter and then they get a percentage of the recovery. You do not pay money up front.

I am a personal injury attorney. I, like all personal injury attorneys in New York, work on a contingent basis. This means I don't get paid unless my client gets paid. My fee is contingent upon my ability to recover compensation for my injured clients.

No, you do not pay up front. There is also usually a free consultation , 1st interview, and the attorney gets paid out of the settlement or final judgment. In addition the attorney may not take the case ,if after he and other professionals evaluate the facts (police report , medical report ,expert reports, etc) and determine that liability is not in your favor. In Ohio the generally accepted fee is from 33 1/3 % to 40 % of the settlement , plus the client pays all cost, (medical bills etc, out of the settlement . Its 40% when trial is necessary.

Most of the time, a personal injury lawyer will take a case on "contigency" meaning that the fee is contingent on the recovery. The fee is a percentage (25% in the case of a minor) of the proceeds of the settlement or verdict. So, the lawyer does not get paid until and unless the client gets paid. But, there can be exeptions or modifications: in certain cases a lawyer might want an advance on the expenses, the fee, or both. Almost always, the initial consultation is free, and at that point a potential client is given a complete explanation of what the fees and anticipated costs will be, and have it in writing before the lawyer is actually retained or paid.
