I am rent in a 1 bedroom home and my bedroom caught on fire at 1:30 am I was woken by a pop and then the fire alarm went off. I ended up with 2nd degree burns on my hand and lacerations to my foot. The fire is under investigation.

If it can be proved that the fire broke out due to either hazardous conditions in your apartment/building over which you had no knowledge, contro,l or waning and/or negligent act by your landlord, then yes, you do have an actionable cause of action against him/her for all the good things you mentioned. Landlord owes you the absolute duty to provide you with safe and habitable premises, as well as the right to "quite enjoyment" of your rental. Contact a reputable PI attorney licensed in CA. Can find an excellent one in 's "find a lawyer" feature located on top of this page.

I agree with Mr. Behar. Consult with an attorney, who can help you during the investigative stages. Once the cause of the fire is determined, you may be able to recover from the land owner and their insurer. Good luck.

Yes, unless one of your appliances caused the fire. Take photos of your injuries and the damage to your home. Lots of photos. Go the doctor and keep going to the doctor to treat your injuries. Keep all of your paystubs to document your wage loss, if any. Make and appointment with a PI attorney. Consultations are usually free. Also, if I recall correctly, in a fire, the landlord's insurance will pay for a tenant's property damage as a first party claim. Make a complete list of all of your damaged property. Document it with receipts (f you have them) and replacement cost values.
