How can I get this money back and help others whom I'm sure have been scammed as well.

I sent a deposit with an application (had to to apply) for my daughter to be in Honors Performance Series at Carnegie Hall. They have a cancellation policy under the section "Cancellations" in the terms and conditions, which must be received by Oct. 30. They deny refunds if students are accepted, but you don't know any details until you're accepted. (My guess is everyone gets accepted) You don't find out you're accepted until Oct. 31. We sent in a letter of cancellation, postmarked by the time dated on Cancellation policy, only to find out that no one who is accepted, under any circumstance, gets the refund back. This is a scam. Should I contact the NY state attorney general? Thanks

Yes, your first efforts should be at contacting the AG's office in NY. A lawsuit of this type would be far more expensive than simply letting the matter go. However, this does not appear to be a scam, but a very narrow refund policy.
