Hiring a divorce Lawyer in Dallas,Texas

Business 4 views 4 answers
I have lived 2 years in dallas county (75061). Recently moved out of Texas. Want to file an uncontested divorce. No children and assets together. it would be very simple. I need to get it done with low cost since I am unemployed at this moment. in my understanding, I have to be a resident (residing in a county for 6months) to file a divorce. Based on that, I need to file from Dallas county even though I am not residing there anymore. I tried to reach out divorce lawyers to find out their fee. But couldn't find less than $500 (Including court fee). I will highly appreciate if anyone wants to help me with a minimal fee. I need to get it done correctly to avoid further delay. Thanks!!

You may want to check the county website and see if they have any form documents available for pro se litigants.

The filing fee in Dallas County for a divorce with no children is currently $292. I seriously doubt you will find an attorney who will charge less than $208 ($500 minus court costs) in fees to represent you in a divorce. You should definitely investigate how to file it yourself.

If you moved out of Texas an no longer reside in Dallas County, you can only file there if your spouse has residence there. Alternatively you can file in another Texas county if your spouse has been domiciled for 6 months in another Texas county.

I would also check out requirements for filing for divorce in the state in which you are currently living. It will be easier than having to return to Texas to appear in court. If you are receiving state or federal aid, you might qualify for assistance from a local Legal Aid office. I would do a computer search to find one. Good luck!
