Will I have to return to the USA to go to court?

I am a UK citizen with a UK licence who got stopped and booked for speeding today in Minnesota. The check box for a mandatory court appearance is not filled, but the police officer involved later left a message on my hotel answerphone advising that she made a mistake about that, she thinks I will have to go to court. I am due to leave the USA in two days.

If it is just a speeding ticket that did not include "endangering life or property" it should be a payable offense with not appearance needed. With that said, since the officer called you should call the court to verify. Given you are out of the country, in almost all instances the matter could be resolved without a court appearance even if the box was checked if your circumstance is explained. A local attorney in the area of criminal defense can help you out. Good Luck
