Know a way to get a new apartment during Ch 13 bankruptcy? Seems so difficult to get someone to take us, even with good income.

I'm in a bankruptcy, Ch 13, been in it for a while. My attorney has apparently been disbarred, and can't get any answers out of the attorney who is handling our case. Anyway, I'm wondering if there are any options for getting into a less expensive apartment. We pay $1400 now, would like to be paying about $800. But all the places are saying that they can't take us because of the bankruptcy.
Anyone know any way to make this work?
I don't know how hard you have tried to get a hold of your attorney, but I would recommend you make a concerted effort to contact him/her. Decreasing your rent so dramatically can affect how much your plan payment has to be. Without talking to your attorney you have no idea if decreasing this expense will affect your plan payment. If all else fails, then you need to consult with another attorney. Be sure to tell the new attorney that you plan to consult that you already have an attorney, but cannot get him/her to deal with your issue.
In addition, your attorney may know of some rental companies/complexes that work with people in bankruptcy. Getting a lease while in a bankruptcy is possible, but, as you are finding out, more difficult. My experience is the worse your credit the more of a deposit you have to put down.
I hope this helps. Good luck!
One other issue to take into consideration, in addition to the issue of how such a drastic change in your expenses could affect your plan, is the treatment of your lease for your current apartment. If you assumed the lease and you now want to reject it prior to the conclusion of the lease, the lessor would have the right to file a claim for an administrative expense equal to the amount of the remaining term of the lease, so you might end op not only having to pay your new lease, you might have to pay the full amount of your current lease in addition. You really need to make more of an effort to speak with the attorney now handling your case as this is not straight forward and you need to speak with someone familiar with your case and your district.
