Restraining order question. My question is about a restraining order. The restraining order says: "The defendant is not governed by the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act." What does that mean?

Without reading the entire Order I Cannot be absolutely sure, but it logically means that you are not prohibited from the possession of firearms while the Order is in effect. You might want to show it to an attorney.

The brady handgun prevention act prevents certain persons from selling or owning firearms (including felons and people with protective orders or restraining orders against them). But an attorney would have to read the actual order to determine how it applies in your case.

Talk to a local attorney about your particular Order. If the Brady act applied you would be prohibited from possessing guns (and ammunition).
