Reinstating a revoked Drivers License

Business Questions 3 views 3 answers
Hello, I'm 21 years old. I got my D.U.I in May 2008 in Iowa with an Illinois Drivers License. While I got my DUI in Iowa, I was on Court Supervision in Illinois for a speeding ticket. Six months after my DUI, I received a letter in the mail informing me my license was SUSPENDED for one year. Then another six months later, I received another letter informing me my license was REVOKED for a year? I was confused. However, I did get arrested in April 2009 for Driving on a Revoked License. In that case, I'm not eligible to apply for my license until February 5th 2011 instead 2010. I need my License more than anything right now, especially with having a part-time job and attending college as a full time student. How high are my chances of earning my license back? And How much will it cost me?

It sounds like you went cheap in Iowa, and got burned big in Illinois. Anyone convicted out-of-state for a DUI will get hit big in Illinois. You can apply for a restricted drivers permit in Illinois now, but you will need a lawyer to help you with your chances. Let this be a lesson for others from Illinois who fail to hire good lawyers for out-of-state DUIs. It will cost you 5 times more if you go cheap up front. Hire a good lawyer initially, and get the case pleaded down to reckless driving. If this guy had done that, he would still be driving now.

You are eligible to apply for a restricted driving permit here. Your driving revoked arrest and conviction will not sit well with the Secretary of State. You need to start out with a drug and alcohol evaluation. You should contact Jim Stratton at PSI. He has a Sterling office. 815-499-4362

Mr. Ramsell is correct. Out of state DUI's, when reported to IL cause your license to be revoked, where the same charge in IL would probably not result in a revocation if a first offense. Your driving while revoked ticket extended your eligability date. You should contact an experienced reinstatement lawyer to guide your through the process of seeking a restricted driving permit so you can work. Do not drive until then, because additional driving while revoked tickets will further extend you, very possibly send you to jail and make it more difficult for any driving relief.
