My question is how do I get out of being his sponsor? Can I file another form or write to the court anything?

My brother in law was arrested on DWI 2nd August 2015 and then subsequently detained by immigration. He was able to get a bond due to my sponsorship and was released. My question is how do I get out of being his sponsor? I no longer want to sponsor him because he has gone back to his old ways (drinking and driving) and I do not want to be held liable.

It depends on what you mean by sponsor. If you signed an affidavit of support and he has been granted permanent resident status, it is too late to back out. Also I am not aware of any type of sponsorship that makes the sponsor liable for another person's DUI.

What type of sponsor were you? Based on your question, it seems as though you filed a form. Are you talking about an I-864 affidavit of support which was required for him to be come a permanent resident? If this is so, you will not be able to revoke your "sponsorship".

If you are referring to the I-864 affidavit of support, you cannot "get out of it" but then again it does not make you liable for anything really other than government assistance.
