What are the benefits of hiring a lawyer for traffic tickets?

The benefits on hiring a traffic attorney is that they are able look at the citation and figure out if there is anything wrong with the traffic citation and try to get the case thrown out. More importantly, if your case has to go to a trial then you will need a attorney who knows the rules of evidence and makes sure your rights aren't being infringed on. However, hiring a attorney doesn't mean your case will get dismissed it just allows another person who familiar with the legal process to ensure the prosecutor isn't cutting corners on your case.

Many lawyers, such as myself, (but not all) will at least make sure their fees are paid by the amount reduced in the fines. I do not feel comfortable charging a person fees in a situation where they pay more by having a lawyer than if they do not. Having said that, there are situations where the citation has what amounts to hidden charges such as surcharges for "no insurance" of $750 so that the benefit is not readily apparent.

Another benefit of hiring an attorney familiar with traffic tickets is that they are aware of any collateral effects of taking convictions in some cases. There are many traffic offenses that could result in suspensions and surcharges and an attorney is going to help avoid those consequences when possible.
