What happens if a company get sold when the i-485 is pending.

I am in the final stages of green card process, i.e. PERM, i 140 has been approved. and i.485 was filed concurrently with i 140. I am in the "Rest of the world" group and the fingerprint date is next week. However, the company (sponsor) I work for will be sold within next 3 months to another firm. The name of the employer would change but I will keep the current job as well as the responsibilities will be identical. Any comments on this situation on what might happen next in terms of i 485 and be ready for any changes?

There is a process for substituting employers and mergers and acquisitions and they require help from an attorney.

I agree with my colleague. Hopefully you were represented in your adjustment application and the attorney will continue to guide you further.

If a company was sold after the I-485 was pending for more then 180 days it is likely going to fit into ac21 portability and not be an issue. If it was sold before 180 days of the I-485 pending it depends on the type of sale and retaining of the corporate structure or of a successor structure. Accordingly, it is advisable to consult a qualified immigration attorney.

You should contact your immigration attorney and ask about " successor in interest". The attorney will be able to guide you after the acquisition of your current employer.
