How can I get my child support case closed in Virginia?
Anonymous3 views3 answers
My attorney won't respond to emails, calls, etc and I need to have my child support case closed so that I can seek another attorney. The case has remained open for almost 3 years which prevents me from hiring another attorney. He has done me wrong and now my ex-wife has moved in with her fiance' and won't notify the court or have her attorney file the motion to have the spousal support terminated. The court has said they cannot provide any relief either, and other attorneys won't get involved because it is an open case. I need some help with this as I live in Annapolis, Maryland and the case is in Roanoke, Virginia.

You can substitute your attorney for a new one.
Also, she and her attorney have no incentive to file a motion to terminate her spousal support.
You should discuss the specific facts of your case with an experienced family law attorney.

Here is the speech: you have children involved. They are important, or should be. Get an attorney. If you cannot afford one try legal aid, the local law school, local organizations that assist with children's issues, or the bar association.

You are free to hire a new attorney any time--nothing to do with the case being "closed" (whatever you mean by that). Call the VA state bar association to request a referral immediately. You can also use the find a lawyer tab at the top of the page.
