The lawyer who handles your case will need to know many more facts, for example, where you drunk, how long had the fight been going on, who started it, was he/she drunk, did the establishment have notice that their bar was prone to fights and should they reasonably have hired security, was there a security video camera, etc.? There are many more facts that need to be developed before the merits of your case can be adequately analyzed, and you will need to retain a security expert to render an opinion about negligence, as well. The bottom line is that it is worth your while to consult with an attorney and take a closer at the entire situation. This means that if they had behaved properly, your injuries could have been prevented. How long had the fight been going on when you got hurt? Did management know about it? Did they call police immediately? Should/Could someone have warned you not to go near the stairs? There is also the issue of the business's insurance. Regardless of fault, they may have "med-pay" insurance coverage while will pay some of your medical bills without regard to fault, just because you were injured on their premises. This is NOT the rule however, for suing them. Again, that requires proof of fault. Good luck.
