My landlord is refusing my checks

Business 2 views 1 answers
I have lived here for 4 years. Last winter we took our landlord to court for refusing to fix our furnace (tried blaming it on us) we won the case, but harassment started soon after. (telling us where to park, yelling at visitors for parking in the driveway etc) one of my rent checks bounce due to poor budgeting (all my fault) and she's refused checks from us ever since. This can be very difficult to plan. I tried giving her a check a couple months ago and she delivered the check back with a letter that we had to pay cash or cashiers check by the end of the day or we would get an eviction. Can she do this?

You should start by reviewing your lease to see if it says whether the landlord has discretion to mandate the type of payment. Landlords cannot generally evict a tenant in the situation you're describing as you are paying the rent, but again, you should check the lease. Good luck.
