What if the court has no record of my citation? Am I legally required to keep & submit my copy for them to process my violation?

I received a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign six weeks ago. I went to the court house on the date and time indicated on my citation. They asked me for my copy of the citation, I indicated to them that I didn't have my copy. The clerk ran my drivers license number and told me that I did not have a citation on file, and that she was unable to do anything without my copy of the citation. I didn't offer my copy, because to me that seems like self incrimination. The officer that gave me the citation should do his own paper work. How is it my responsibility to do it for him, or for the court for that matter? Also, when I signed my ticket, I accidentally signed on the incorrect location on the ticket. Does this error make my ticket invalid and would allow it to be dismissed?

Your ticket is not invalid because you signed the incorrect location. You are not incriminating yourself by providing your copy of the ticket but you are NOT obligated to do so. If the cop didn't turn it in or the court didn't process it correctly you just got lucky.

The ticket is not invalid because you signed in the wrong place. It does seem odd that the ticket is not in the system. While you are not obligated to provide a copy of the ticket-and there is no incrimination in doing so- this might save you possible problems if suddenly the ticket shows up and you failed to appear when indicated on the ticket. You need to get some proof from the clerk that you werer there.
