How do I Know if gun stealing is a federal crime

My home was broken into by the same person three times. While my husband was in the hospital and I was away from home. Two of those times guns were stolen along with other things. Was it a federal crime to steal the guns? and how do I make sure he is charged through the federal court.?

Possession of a stolen firearm can be a federal crime, if some part of the firearm traveled in interstate commerce. Whether the Feds pick up a gun prosecution depends on that U.S. Attorney's Office decision whether or not to pick up the case. There is no way for citizens to ensure a federal charge.

You need to report the theft of the weapons to the police. The prosecuting authorities will decide whether it is State or Federal.
