How can a jobless US citizen sponsor his indian citizen dad to get his green card? At the present state the US citizen will be unable to hold a job. He has a friend who is a permanent resident who makes enough money and says he can provide financial documents for sponsoring the US citizen's dad. Is this true? Can a permanent resident financially sponsor while the US citizen files his dad's paperwork for permanent residency?

In petitioning for a family member, the Petitioner (U.S. citizen) must also financially sponsor the immigrant (father). However, in the event the Petitioner does not make the necessary income based on household size, they may have a Joint Sponsor - so long as they are a resident and/or U.S. citizen and meet the required income for their household size. I recommend you consult a licensed attorney to discuss your options and what will be necessary from your joint sponsor. Best of Luck!!

Yes, you may have a LPR consign, but you will still need to submit your own I864 and supporting evidence. You can also supplement the lack of income with any assets you may have. Consult with an attorney for more info. Good luck.
