owing an arrears in child support does not prevent your moving anywhere WITHIN the US. If you owe 2500 or more you could find your passport being denied & thus preventing your being able to leave the US but having a child support debt does not prevent your ability to move from one state to another. You may have heard of the Deadbeat Parents Punishment Act which made it a federal crime for a parent who willfully failed to make child support payments by traveling or moving to another state to avoid making these payments but the crux of that act is that you move was motivated by an intent to avoid your obligation to pay support [few cases are actually brought under this act for reasons that have nothing to do with your question.]

An order f support does not bar you from relocating to another state. However, there are idiot federal agencies that may come after you for federal support evasion charges. You also do not shake off New York's infamous 21 year age out (kids in New York do not grow up until 21). There is also no guarantee you will find any kind of paying job in Florida. Finding a paying job is like winning the lottery these days: the same goes for finding a proper mate and finding a dream home. To the contrary, American living is now characterized by scraping an existence out of the ground while being hounded by government. Leaving one place for another may be like jumping out of the frying pan into the fire. Unless your sister is a financial superstar, your best bet may be to remain in New York City as our unemployment rate hovers around 4%. You just have to try harder to find work remembering that federal law places employers in jeopardy at the slightest issue involving labor. Employees freely sue their employers these days so jobs have vanished as a result.

Yes you can move. The debt/judgment travels with you along with any sanctions imposed by NYS resulting from your non-payment, however. Please speak with an attorney as soon as possible to learn how you can make your move happen without creating problems with any child support agencies. Good luck!

You are free to relocate to Florida but you will still be required to pay child support. If your child support is payable through the CSEU then you will need to keep them appraised of your address and employment status. Do not make the mistake of ignoring you child support obligation. If you do then you will likely find yourself on the wrong side of a UIFSA child support enforcement proceeding.

Sure - there are no restrictions on where you can live merely if you owe child support. However, so you don't create problems for yourself, I'd advise to update your new address with SCU. Call a Bronx Child Support attorney for more info.
