If my child's father is named in a wrongful death suit does he have to name his heirs?

My child's father owns a business. His equipment caused a death of a customer and he is now named in a wrongful death suit that is moving forward. He said he has to name his heirs. Is it true he has to name his heirs? Would this make his children responsible if he died? Personally, I believe he's lying about the whole thing. He doesn't want anyone to know about our child so I feel this is a tactic to scare me off. He said he is perjuring himself by protecting our child by not naming her as his heir. He tried telling me before he has personal guarantees that extend to his children and children's children. (I know that's false) I'm just trying to sort out anything I need to be concerned about for my child's sake in the future when it comes to his debts. Thank you.

Nothing he has told you makes any sense to me.

Hi. I hope the following makes you feel better. While there is more I'll need to know to fully answer your question, I can say that the father's children will not be personally responsible for the father's debts. Meaning that the plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the father will not be able to go after the children's personal assets having no connection to the father. If the father dies, however, the plaintiffs may be able to go after the assets in the father's estate. This could reduce the amount of assets that will go to the children as heirs to the estate. Hope that helps a little to answer your question.
