What do I do about a civil summons from a doctors office for my daughter's bills?

My ex husband is required to pay 76% of all med. bills. The summons ha MY name on it but his address. I've never signed for anything. I didn't know these bills existed but they are after me. i don't even know if he's paid his part & unfortunately he's too combative to communicate with. I cannot afford a judgement.

From your description, this sounds like an issue to address with your divorce attorney or a family law attorney. If there is a QDRO setting out the child support requirements, that should address what your ex-husband is required to pay, but I would consult your divorce attorney.

The doctor can sue either or both of you for unpaid bills for your child. You need to respond to the summons within the 20 day time frame. DO NOT IGNORE THE SUMMONS. You may do better getting a consult with a bankruptcy attorney or someone who works in consumer protection. If your divorce attorney handles this type of matter that could be an option.
