How much money do we ask for for personal injury in hospital?

My husband was admitted to hospital in April 2017. He had to have an MRI and was sedated for it. He was wearing a nicotine patch, which they did not remove prior to the test. Towards the end of the test, he was awakened and started telling that he was burning and the nurse grabbed his hand and told him to hold on just a little longer. When they pulled him out, they realized what had happened. They brought him to the room and explained and apologized to both of us. The head of the MRI department then came up and apologized. That was a Friday. He was suppose to have been discharged on Saturday morning, but they now wanted to keep him and treat the burn and send him home Sunday. On Saturday, the gave him way to much Oxycontin ER and he became lethargic, almost comatose and was moved to ICU early Sunday morning. He was given narcan to reverse the affect. On Monday, the hospital CEO came to discuss the test issues we had had, and was apologetic. Since then we have received a letter from risk management and they have stated we can send a letter with a sensible monetary request and they would consider it. No attorney will take the case. We don't know what amount???

This is not personal injury.. it's medical malpractice and you need to hire a lawyer immediately. You can't do this without a lawyer.. and it maybe because you're looking for PI attys instead of med mal. How much money he will be able to settle is related to how much his medical bills are.

There is no way an attorney could properly evaluate the value of your injuries from this brief description. One would need to know the severity of the burn, the length of hospital stay, the amount of medical bills, if your injuries have fully healed and many other factors to answer your question. You need to meet with a medical malpractice attorney. Take the letter from the hospital['s risk management with you when you go to meet with an attorney. You may have to look around since your claim may not have the value that some attorney require to go forward. Med Mal claims are some of the most expensive to handle and many attorneys won't take them unless there is catastrophic injury or death; otherwise the cost to pursue often outweighs the recovery. Don' delay meeting with a Medical Malpractice attorney though. Tennessee has a one year statute of limitations meaning you must either settle all claims or file suit within one year of your injury; if you wait beyond that time period your claim could be barred by law.
