How do I deal with these debt collector companies?

Hi, My father passed away like 5 months ago, and he has some debts from different credits, well now the problem is that my father has a save deposit box in bank and which my mother is trying to take care of, she is the personal representative for that safe deposit box, well my mother already tried to acces the safe deposit box and files the case in probate court, so court give us the summary of admistration so we can do the inventory and than we bought the another papers for $345 (the real order)....!! Well we already done the inventory,submit his death certificate,funeral receipt, will and oath of witnesses has already been done.. The only thing which is left is to how can we deal with these dept collector companies because they also claiming the safe deposit box, by the way I already talked to a probate lawyer and he told me that if there is no cash in safe deposit box (which is not but only jewelleries for around $40,000) than these companies cannot put hands on jewelleries, so is this true? If not than how do I deal with these debt collector companies? Should I pay them the dept money and get rid of it? Or there is something else I can do? Like tell jury to extempt the debt.!
