When should I consult an lawyer when starting a business?

I am starting a web-based and telemarketing-based sales business. I have already formed an LLC and am in the process of creating a website and a telemarketing script. I have quite a few questions for a lawyer pertaining to what disclosures I need to make and what I can say and what I can't. Is it wise to wait until I finish the website and write a whole telemarketing script to contact one or should I do it now? So far cost has been the only thing thats been keeping me waiting. Thanks

It sounds as if you are well on your way. It is wise to consult an attorney as early in the process as possible. While you will be incurring that expense, the advise of a lawyer could prevent you from making costly mistakes regarding your start-up. Simply based on the limited information you have provided, I can see a number of issues relating to limitations and regulation of internet content and telemarketing. I believe that sitting down with an attorney to discuss drafts of your material soon will help you avoid the need to go back and make significant changes later. Feel free to contact me at [email protected] or via the link below if you have any questions.

You should contact an attorney as soon as possible. Most business formation advice can be handled in a few hours. The cost comes in when attorneys have to try to fix things that clients have already done.
