What does it mean if I have not had an "arraignment" but my next "setting" is listed as "disposition"?

Harris County Court in Texas.. I have not been formally arraigned or entered a plea of any kind at all but online my next setting is listed as a disposition. Is this normal? Or is my case getting dismissed?

I would advise you to not put a lot of stock in descriptions and abbreviations on websites. An arraignment setting is your first setting, and many jurisdictions will allow you to file a waiver and not appear. Disposition means resolution, but just because it is categorized that way, doesn't mean there will be disposition on that day. If the case was going to be dismissed, then it would already be dismissed. They don't have to wait for a setting to tender a dismissal. You have a number of constitutional rights that allow you to contest this charge (or charges) and the Government cannot rush the process and deprive you of that. As I said, however, every jurisdiction is different. Your best bet will be to find a local practitioner that knows the ins and outs. Good luck.

I agree with Mr. Poerter. Your lawyer is the one to best answer questions concerning the status of your case.

Mr. Porter and Mr. Wooldridge are correct. Just b/c it's set for disposition means little more than just another setting. Your rights to trial by jury, cross-examination of witnesses, confrontation of witnesses, all the other legal protections are still available to you. Talk to your lawyer for the best explanation. Best of Luck!

Typically, a disposition setting means that at that setting you are expected, absent some legitimate reason to delay further, to set Your case either for a trial Or a plea.
