Did I file federal income tax if my brother included me as a dependent in his tax return filing?

Hello everyone, This is a question about federal income tax in document form I-864. I am a legal permanent resident and sponsoring my spouse for a green card but as I was not working in previous years( though have started my work now), my brother had included me as a dependent till now. And I am including him as a co-sponsor for the application. My question is did I file federal income tax in previous years? If no, what evidence/s do I need to submit to support that I was not required to file federal income tax return? Thank you all . Your opinions will be highly appreciated.

You did not personally file a return, so no. But you would want to provide an explanation on a separate piece of paper explaining that you didn't make enough and now you do and that is why would didn't file prior years.

Short answer: No you did not file. But you should indicate in the I-864 a statement to the effect that you earned income beneath the filing threshold ( or if you earned no income just say that). Keep it short and simple and you will be ok.
