I got a citation for possession of marijuana less than an ounce. If I plead no contest and pay the ticket do I have to go court

I am 17 I was parked in my car smoking. When I cop drove up and searched my car because he had probable cause. He found less then a oz of marijuana & a bong. The officer contacted my mom before letting me go. He gave a citation and told me to go back home. If I plead no contest and pay the fee, do I have to attend court?

There are serious repercussions for having this on your record. There are a lot of courts that will allow you to take a class for dismissal. I strongly suggest you contact an attorney for help on this matter.

You get a license suspension if convicted. A conviction will bar you from some employment and may affect school admissions. This is serious -- get a lawyer.

I agree with La Familia Oberdorfer, but would also add to make sure your attorney explores the possibility of an MIP diversion. Typically you do a drug and alcohol evaluation, attend classes and a Victim Impact Panel, and the charge is dismissed. This will cost more but will save your license. Not all counties have diversion as a set policy, but are often interested in doing it as it is more beneficial than just paying a fine.
