If I'm in police custody and sent to the hospital am I responsible for the bill that came?

I was a passenger in a car wreck. I was arrested and placed in the back of the cop car then forced to go to hospital by way of ambulance and now have received a bill for $50,000 and didn't receive any surgery or anything of that nature. I didn't ask to go to the hospital and while I was there I was cuffed to the bed the entire time while a cop would take turns watching me. I shouldn't be liable for the cost should I?

Did you receive the medical treatment? If so, you are probably on the hook for the cost of that treatment. I hope you have insurance. If not, see if the hospital is willing to write it off or has a fund for indigent patients. Or maybe it is time to talk to a bankruptcy attorney.

Do you own a car? Is it insured for liability and personal injury protection? If yes, take the bill to your insurance agent. If you do not own a car, was the car you were riding in insured? If you were arrested, then the police department who arrested you may owe the bill. However, if you were convicted, the policy may recover the debt from you. I suggest that you contact a personal injury lawyer and possibly a bankruptcy lawyer.
