Will the Intent to sue letter extend the SOL on a medical malpractice case?

I intend to file a medical malpractice case. The statute of limitation exp date is tomorrow. if I send the intent to sue letter today by overnight delivery will the statute extend 90 days? I need more time and I am too sick. I have not called attorneys yet and I don't want to represent myself.
