Recently had car accident -- my fault. Worried my $100,000 personal injury coverage won't be enough. What should I do now?

I had an accident -- my utility trailer broke off my truck and hit another car head on. The driver seemed fine -- just shook up. The thing that worries me is that the driver is pregnant. She was taken to the hospital. I'm afraid the $100,000 personal injury coverage won't be enough and I will be sued. The insurance company won't tell me anything. I'm so worried. Should I talk to a lawyer at this point or just wait until I am sued. I don't know what the statute of limitations is in Tennessee, but I've read other states can be 2 years. I soooo don't want this hanging over my head for that long.
It may hang on over your head that long or longer.
First thing you have done, I hope, has been to notify your insurance about the claim and allowing them to handle it. Two things may happen: your insurance will negotiate a settlement and settle the case and all will be over. Or 2) there will be no settlement and a lawsuit will be filed and the insurance company will defend you.
At this point, there is nothing for you to do but to cooperate with your insurance company. Keep in mind that in all car insurance policies there is a clause that says if you do not cooperate with the insurance company they reserve the right to deny you coverage. So, make sure you notify them immediately of any paperwork you receive and you cooperate with them-
I hope this helps-

I'm a California attorney. I have listed a link to statute of limitations in Tennessee. You need to encourage your insurance company to protect you and your assets. You can contact a local attorney for further advise and or write them a letter. Should they obtain a judgment against you in excess of your limits and the insurance doesn't pay it, you could potentially file bankruptcy to protect yourself unless you were convicted of drunk driving in the accident.
You may wish to talk with a lawyer who will make sure that your insurance company will promptly evaluate and resolve for the claim for an amount less than or equal to your insurance policy limits. The cost will be relatively little and it will give you piece of mind.
