Will a felony that was dropped to a misdemeanor and dismissed show up on a background check?

I was charged with a felony in 2001 and went thru a program and the public defender had it reduced to a misdemeanor and dismissed in 2014, will this show up on a background check and can a prospective employer hold it against me? Also, do I have to check the box that asks "Have you ever been convicted of a felony? Thanks for any help you can give me.

Oregon convictions that were reduced to a misdemeanor will typically say “felony reduced to misdemeanor” or something to that effect if the reduction was done after the original conviction. If the reduction was completed at the time of original sentence sometimes it will just say ‘misdemeanor’. It’s best to complete an Oregon State Place background check prior to job application or be able to explain how your prior convictions appear. If at all possible seal or expunge your prior.

Oregon has an expungement process which, if a person previously convicted of a qualifying crime (in Oregon) is eligible, results in the person's ability to deny having been convicted of the crime on, among other things, job applications. Oregon's process also removes the record of conviction from databases accessible by the public (such as OECI). I imagine California has a similar process, however, as previously noted, you need to consult with an attorney who is licensed to practice law in California.
