Do the US law / consulates consider engagement as a marital status ?

Business 2 views 3 answers
The consultant who filled my Ds-160 application put in "engaged" using the "other" option on my marital status and he left the Spouse section empty. Now i am married to a US citizen and my paperwork is currently under process. Since i was previously denied according to the section 214 B which stated i couldn't satisfy the counselor that i would return back to my home country. Will that engaged on my Ds-160 application form create any trouble for me in obtaining a spouse visa and it was 3 years ago ?

If you were engaged three years ago and now you are married, the previous submission of your honest circumstance should not impact a subsequent immigration petition based on marriage.

The DS160 form is the application for a non-immigrant visa. If it was truthful at the time of completion, then that will not be a problem for a later visa application. If you mean by "paperwork is currently under process" that your USC spouse has filed an immigrant petition for you, then eventually you will complete the DS260 for the immigrant visa application, if you remain outside the US. You may seek a private consult with an immigration attorney to help you and your spouse move through the immigration process with confidence and specific immigration advice.
