Can I file a complaint against a school as a parent even if I am employee for the same school system?

I am employed with a school system as a teacher and my child is attending another school in the same system. As a parent, I had questions that the school administration could not answer, so I called the state department over the school to ask questions regarding safety. After a few weeks, I received an email for Human Resources for my school system stating that I need to meet with he and the assistant superintendent regarding a complaint that I made against the school my child attends. A few days later, I receive a phone call from the state program representative I spoke to and she stated that she only told them she received a call from a concerned parent with questions, and she also confirmed that a complaint was not filed. No names were given, but yet I receive an email through my school account. Is there a line between being a parent and being an employee?

You left out a crucial fact. What happened at the meeting? Or, has the meeting not happened. On the surface, I am not sure why your employer school would care?

Unfortunately, while you theoretically should have the right to what any other parent has the right to, your employment there makes you have to use common sense in dealing in your role as a parent as well. Simply put, if you tick off your employer it is not necessarily going to be a good thing, that's common sense. If it is a very important thing that affects your child's future in some irreparable way, by all means do what you must. But if you don't like a teacher assignment or a particular class, think long and hard about being a difficult parent.

You have the same rights as any parent of a child would have when it concerns the child's education. In your case you have to weigh the imprtance of the issue to your child's future versus the importance of your position to you. Personally, the child's futre is the controlling factor here. If its a true issue don't be intimidated by your employer.
