I am a stay at home mom and have been for the past 18 years I have no income, no access to joint account, and no credit cards. I need an attorney that practices family law to help me with a protective order and child custody /visitation.

Some attorneys will work with you in a situation like that and defer payment until you collect your share of marital property and begin receiving financial support.

There are legal aid services throughout Northern Virginia. Consult an organization called Legal Services of Northern Virginia. They have offices in Fairfax and Alexandria, but they should be able to help you in Arlington as well.

Legal services of northern Virginia… If you qualify you can have an attorney represent you for free. Also George mason law school has a legal aid clinic, I think, and I know that Catholic University downtown in DC does as well.

You may try Legal Aid of Northern Virginia. (They are, however, selective regarding which divorce matters they take). I also strongly encourage you to speak with local bar associations, such as the Fairfax Bar Association, Arlington Bar Association, and Alexandria Bar Association. They often have great resources.
