Can I ask for additional orders in my Responsive Declaration?

I have been served with a Request for Order on some financial issues and attorney's fees as it pertains to divorce proceedings. In my Responsive Declaration, can I request for other orders pertaining to a Status Only judgement for a divorce? Or can I only respond and request orders related to what's in the RFO?

Generally, you would have to file your own RFO for something not covered in the original one, because the RFO you were served with contains the only matters at issue for that hearing. There are exceptions, especially when the judge, parties or attorneys agree. Get a consultation with an experienced family law lawyer.

Your response must be limited to what is being requested by the other party. If you want to request something totally different then you need to file your own RFO or other motion.

You can only address and respond to what is being requested in the Request For Order.
