My ex husband has a high power lawyer and is hiring investigators etc. I cannot even afford a lawyer much less all this other stuff. We are in a case involving child custody and visitation

You can seek for a judge to require your husband to advance litigation expenses to level the playing field between you and him.

Go see an attorney who will know how to ask for interim attorney’s fees. The law provides for the high wage earning spouse to contribute to the lower earner’s attorney’s fees, to level the playing field so to speak. Many supported spouses do not realize this and are then pushed around quite a bit. See an attorney. You’ll feel better after you do.
Best of luck to you.

If you want to hire a lawyer you will need to find a way to come up with the initial deposit. Put it on a credit card or have a friend or family member loan it to you. I am sure they will give you a better payment plan and interest than a lawyer.
After that, I agree with the above answers. Go after your husband for fees and support.
(That all being said, if you call enough lawyers, you will find one desperate enough to take your case on the cheap. This may be a bad idea?)
Good luck!
