Can someone bring very large (more than $10,000) sums of money from Canada to the US?

A Canadian citizen/resident wants to bring $100,000.00 to the US to help his mother, a US resoident, purchase a home. Other than having to declare it to customs upon entry into US, are there any other things that must be done. Are there any problems with bringing this money to the US? What specific information do I need to report to US customs?

Is there an immigration related issue somewhere in there? You can bring money in and declare it at the custom, that's about it. Goodluck.

The amounts under $10,000 may be brought to the United States without being declared, however, any cash funds, financial instruments, checks, bonds, security papers in excess of that amount must be declared at US Customs with a document stating their legal origin in your home country. You may contact the US Customs for further information on any specific documents they may require for the stated amounts to be brought in the U.S. legally.
