Landlord harassing tenant

1 views 2 answers
My landlord banged on my front window, I answered the door, she, her ex-husband and a friend were on my front porch, she was screaming at me and her friend said she saw me throw eggs at their cars and they had all of this on their surveilance camera. I told them I didn't do it, they were lying and I called the police. This happened less than one month after she took me to court and I won. I've lived here over 12 years-they have been harassing me for 3 years.Should /can I I get a restraining order?

Dear Tenant, You probably cannot get a restraining order. The Courts issue Civil Harassment restraining orders only when the defendant has threatened you physically, or you have a good faith belief that that's about to happen (think stalking). My advice is just to ignore them as much as possible. Do not answer the door. Do not take their calls. Try to exist without interacting with them. They are trying to force you to move so that they can raise the rent. Best, Fran Campbell

This does not sound like a fun place to live. You may want to seek a landlord-tenant lawyer to put a firm boundary between yourself and the landlord.
