In Texas, for how many years back can delinquent property taxes be collected?

I have been served papers that claim I owe more than 10 years property taxes. How do I respond to the papers and is there a limit to the number of years said taxes can be collected?

The statute of limitations for property taxes is 20 years. How you respond depends mostly on whether the taxes are owed or not. If they're not owed, you need to file a denial and be prepared to make them prove that the taxes are due. If the taxes are due, you willl want to file an answer so that a default judgment is not taken, and then work out a payment plan.

How you respond will depend on whether or not you are contesting the validity of the debt. THESE COMMENTS ARE NOT LEGAL ADVICE. They are provided for informational purposes only.
