there is an abandoned property on my block w/o any trespassing/ for sale/ for rent signs posted. There are a few homeless people living in the building. do they have legal rights to the structure if the building is unclaimed? It's been unoccupied/ abandoned for about two years now. Can they obtain the property legally under the squatters rights? Could you please give me details of this "law" known to me as "squatters rights"?

The legal term is adverse possession and it has to be open and notorious possession of the property. You can read a pretty good summary here: http://micurl.com/tvcFgcx
