Collecting unemployment and working Part-time .... what are the guidelines.

3 views 1 answers
My company moved and laid off the majority of it's staff. I have been working for a start up company for over a year now part-time. I have been claiming my income, but I am in sales and have expenses. My part-time employer is very bad with the accounting part and has been brought to my attention we may get audited by unemployment because of co-worker. I am scared because my numbers will not match with what I have been claiming because of my expenses. I kept some receipts but not all. Some was just added to my check with no reference to it being an expense. So, now it looks like I have not been claiming all my income and I have been. Is this going to be an issue? I am being 1099'd at the end of the year and thought I could make things up at that time. HELP need advice.

Is this going to be an issue? If you have gotten unemployment benefits to which you are not entitled, you will be required to repay all those benefits. A letter describing the amount you must repay will be sent to you from the agency. Thinking the last quarter of the year would allow time for you to correct your reporting may not have been a wise course for you to take. What are the guidelines? As with anything else, truthfulness with provable accountability is the standard to show you got only the benefits you should have. Good luck to you. God bless. Best of luck to you.
