Should I have a lawyer to represent me in court?

I was pulled over and given a summons to appear in court for wreckless driving. I've never had a traffic violation where I had to appear in court. I've only had a speeding ticket issued 2 1/2 yrs. ago.

A reckless driving ticket is serious in nature. The potential penalties include the following (quoted directly from the statute) " Any person who violates any provision of this section shall be fined not less than one hundred dollars nor more than three hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than thirty days or be both fined and imprisoned for the first offense and for each subsequent offense shall be fined not more than six hundred dollars or imprisoned not more than one year or be both fined and imprisoned." There are things that can possibly be done depending on the nature of the ticket and why it was issued to try to avoid a reckless on your license. I would suggest hiring counsel.

Reckless driving is a fairly serious charge. It is also a charge that can often be negotiated down to something less serious, like a normal speeding ticket. Therefore, I think that this is a situation where you should definitely hire an experienced traffic attorney to provide counsel. It will save you a trip to court and give you peace of mind. Good luck and please drive safe. Best, Jason Beahm Beahm Law

My colleagues are wise to point out the potential criminal penalties you face as a result of being charged with Reckless Driving: first time offenders can be fined $100-$300 and sentenced to 30 days in jail; repeat offenders face up to $600 in fines and one year in prison. But you should also be aware of the potential consequences you face from the DMV and your insurance companies: your license may be suspended if you are convicted of Reckless Driving for 30-90 days, and your insurance company is likely to discover the conviction when they review your driver's history and raise your rate. All the more reason to hire an attorney experienced in this area who would consider all the implications and advise you accordingly.
