Is it unusual to go to jail right after giving birth?

a friend of mine was recently sentenced to 4 months but was allowed to stay out to give birth to her daughter first since she was high risk due to gestational diabetes. but the judge is making her turn herself in just 2 weeks after the baby comes. is that a normal timeframe? it just seems so quick since she still needs to get her 6 week checkup and get tested again for diabetes at 6 weeks which she was told is VERY important. since they didnt wanna spend the money on takin her to the drs. while pregnant will they take her to these appts afterward? shes from berks county pa

It is neither usual nor unusual. I guess she could consider herself lucky that the judge allowed her to stay out until the birth of her child. It seems a bit extreme to make her go in before her 6 weeks checkup but it is up to the judge.

The prison will transport her to the various doctors appointments unless the prison medical department can handle some of the testing on their own.
