The defendant, if detained will be in the custody of the US Marhsals Service. The USMS usually contracts with county jails for pretrial detainees, except in larger, metropolitan areas. If the person was arrested in NYC, he is most likely at Metropolitan Detention Center New York (next to Foley Square) or Metropolitan Detention Center Brooklyn. Contact the USMS in the district in which he was arrested for specific information. -Joshua Sabert Lowther, Esq. [email protected] www.NationalFederalDefense.com (866) 380-1782

If he was arrested in New York City I would look in MDC in brooklyn or Westchester County Jail (they house fed inmates) to start. I handle Federal Matters if your friend's Family wishes to discuss the case with me.

Try doing a search for him by name under inmate locator at www.bop.gov. Good luck! (Please note that this answer does not constitute legal advice nor does it establish an attorney-client relationship.)

Prior to seeing a judge, the agency that arrested him will have custody. Once he sees a judge and gets held in, he will be with the US Marshall at either the MCC or the MDC if the case is pending in NYC. I am a former federal and State prosecutor and now handle criminal defense so feel free to contact me if your friend wishes to retain counsel.
