Can I book a flight if Greencard is coming in 2 weeks

I passed my greencard interview today. Tomorrow I'm going to extend my passport. The USCIS officer said I should expect my Greencard within 2 weeks. He did not stamp my passport or give me any other information. Is it safe a book a flight for December? Will I be needing my Greencard for that flight or is it just my passport? Thanks!

The fact that the USCIS officer said that you should expect your green card within two weeks is simply an estimate of the amount of time required to produce and send the I-551 (green card). Sometimes green card production takes longer than that, and particularly around the holidays, work tends to slow down somewhat. After traveling abroad, you must present an entry document to be re-admitted to the United States. Without an I-551 or an I-551 stamp in your passport, it is unlikely that you would be admitted.

Even if you are anticipating a receipt of your US permanent lawful residence, you should rely only on factual events, i.e. issued green card, official letter stating that you have been granted permanent legal residence in the U.S. etc. Only then you may book your travel and cross the borders without any issues, otherwise you may be prevented or delayed from entering to the U.S. DISCLAIMER The answer given above by the lawyer serves for educational purposes only and provides general information and a basic understanding of the applicable law.
