Relinqishing parental rights after a step-parent adoption

Business 1 views 2 answers
Hello. I adopted my ex-wifes daughter in a step parent adoption about 6 or 7 years ago. She is now 11 and I have been divorced for 3.5 years. Over this time I have been paying child support, sharing a split custody and caring for her as my own. Today my exwife pulled her out of school and decided she will not have any contact with me from here on out as they do not feel she is treated the same as her younger brother (from the same marriage). I don't want to keep fighting over this as I feel I have treated and cared for my kids equally. I was wondering if it is possible to relinquish my parental rights and responsibilities to this daughter and what that would entail? This is soley due to the fact that I KNOW there really isn't anything I can do about the situation and I so not want to spend

First, your ex cannot just declare that she's going to violate the parenting order. Whatever the court ordered for parenting time is what must occur until some has the court change the requirements. If your ex really wants to bar you from seeing your daughter, she might be willing to agree to you surrendering your parental rights. This would kick the child support back on the natural father, or mom would do without.
