What can I do? Should I seek legal action?

Last year I received a $4 raise from my company. It was “in effect” as of September 2017, but didn’t show on my check until January 2018. When asked, my Hr rep said they owed me backpay from Sept-Dec 2017. It’s now June 2018 and they are dodging my emails and I have not seen any of this pay.

Write and demand this be resolved. If it is not, you can make a claim with the labor commission. Or eventually sue. But there are consequences with all those actions as well. Your best bet may be to be a constant presence asking about how things are coming with the correction.
