Hi. I am applying for US citizenship and have question regarding Form N-400 Application for Naturalization, Part 10, section D, Good Moral Character. I had received 1 traffic ticket (which were not alcohol or drug related). As a result I had to pay total traffic fine of $250 to GA traffic court . (I dint go to court because wasnt required)I understand that I have to answer 'Yes" for item 16 and hence fill out the following table. So, my question is: what exactly do I write in last column of this table? (Last column) Outcome or disposition of the arrest, citation, detention, or charge (No charges filed, charges dismissed, jail, probation, etc.) . I Put NO CHARGES FILED,, Is that was a mistake ??? I should write FINE ??? Thanks. i am worried now my IO will think i am lying? i made special appointment to ask a IO, about it and it was WRITE NO CHARGES FILED???? Thanks alot.

If you plead guilty and were fined, then you were convicted of a traffic charge, not a criminal charge. 'Charges,' in the form of a traffic citation were issued to you, so that is a mistake, but it shouldn't be fatal to your application. It can be changed. A traffic charge if truthfully represented at the interview should not be a reason for denial. If you already filed the application, then this can be corrected. However, there may be other concerns, such as tax issues. As a result, I strongly recommend an appointment with an experienced immigration attorney. Perhaps, someone should be present to witness your naturalization examination or to amend the answers. The above is general information and does not create an attorney client relationship.

If you paid a fine, state so. It is usually best to contact an immigration lawyer to discuss your case if you have concerns or are otherwise not familiar with the immigration process. Best if its done before filing the application! It is usually the inaccurate information provided on the form that will lead to denial of your N400. Goodluck.
